Vaccinations

This guide can help you understand the vaccines offered in Scotland and when to have them. It also explains how they work and why they’re safe and important. For most routine vaccinations, your local health board will invite you by sending you a letter when you become eligible. You do not need to contact them nor your practice to arrange your vaccinations. Vaccines offered in the Scottish Immunisation Programme are free of charge. When everyone takes up their offer of vaccination, everyone in the community has a better chance of living long, healthy lives.

Please note: The Practice cannot re-arrange your vaccination appointments. If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment call 01563 826540 between 9:00am to 5pm to reschedule.

Different vaccines are given at different ages to protect you and your child. Find out when these vaccinations are offered, and when and where they’ll be given.

Childhood immunisations

The childhood teams within NHS Ayrshire and Arran deliver all vaccinations to children 0-6yrs, primary and secondary school children. This covers the age range of 0-18 years. Babies and children age 0-6 will be appointed, with parents/carers receiving an appointment letter through the post, to attend your GP practice for your child’s vaccinations. The appointment letter will also provide a telephone number for parents/carers to contact if they need to rearrange their child’s appointment.

Primary and secondary school children will be vaccinated in school. Children will be provided with a consent form for their parent/carer to complete and return, along with information on the vaccinations their child is being offered.  If a child is off sick on the day of their vaccination(s) the team will ensure that your child is included in future vaccination offers during their school life. Depending on the vaccination(s) being given, this may be within the next school term or the following academic year

If you’re planning to travel outside the UK, your travel health needs will depend on your individual situation. This service is no longer provided by the practice, and is now the responsibility of the NHS health board where you live.

We advise that you arrange an appointment at least 6 weeks prior to your travel date.

Vaccinations help protect you and your family from many infectious diseases. You’ll be offered different routine vaccinations at different times, depending on your age and circumstances.
